# The Role of Warp and Weft Knitted Textiles in Advanced Composites

Baltex’s flexible reinforcement material is used in some very technical composite applications, they are often used in advanced manufacturing due to their ability to conform to complex shapes and offer high strength-to-weight ratios.

By selecting different yarn types and knitting patterns, the composite's strength, stiffness, and other properties can be customised for specific applications. 

##### Applications of warp and weft knitted textiles in composites:

- **Aerospace components:**

Used in the production of aircraft wings, fuselages, and other parts due to their high strength and lightweight properties. 

- **Automotive parts:**

Can be used to reinforce car body panels, providing improved crash resistance and lightweight design. 

- **Wind turbine blades:**

Knitted fabrics are used to create the leading edge of wind turbine blades, enhancing their aerodynamic performance. 

- **Medical implants:**

Due to their biocompatibility and ability to conform to complex shapes, knitted fabrics can be used in the manufacturing of certain medical implants.

##### Different types of warp knitted structures:

- **Tricot knit:** A basic warp knit fabric with a smooth, flat surface.
